We all have dreams. We get wrapped up in a daydream now and again. We all have ambitions in our lives and those ambitions and dreams play a part in shaping our future.

But we need to embrace them, to really do something great. I obviously have some regrets, like all of us. My biggest regret, so far, is not taking up acting when I had the chance.

I joined 4-H when I was 8. Our 4-H club always participated in the county-wide Music & Drama festival, but it was generally the older youth who did so. I finally tried it, and quickly realized that I should've been doing it years earlier. Fast forward to when I was 14, I had just been signed up for the local high school FIRST Robotics team, RoboRiot Team 3418. It turned out to be one of the greatest experiences of my life, but I had to pass something up to continue in it.

My sister had always pushed to act more than I had, so I just tagged along for a while. My sister had auditioned for the community Christmas play, The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe. My mom said it was pretty easy to audition and that I should give it a try. So I found myself auditioning later that day. As I was relatively new to theater, I asked the director, that if I was cast, could I have a smaller part so that I could get my bearings straightened out with the whole theater thing.

I got ended up getting a smaller part, as a beast (fun, right?), but my sister who had pushed the hardest didn't get a part. So I decided that with robotics and my sister not getting a part, I wouldn’t accept my role. I now think that that could’ve been the dumbest thing that I've ever done.

Fast forward to today. I was heavily influenced by my experience on RoboRiot, but I still have a love of acting. And giving that up was a mistake. Unlike most high schoolers, I was homeschooled, so I never had the ability to partake in high school productions.

I would love to start acting again, but the question, I guess, is how? I don’t drive, because I hate it, and the nearest place for acting is thirty minutes away by car. I’m going to figure it out, because if acting is going to be my passion going forward, it helps to start young.

I was recently inspired by the new Spiderman movie. Jacob Batalon made his debut in 2016 (!) and plays Ned, Peter Parker’s best friend. It inspired me because, someone who is so new to the scene was able to accomplish quite a lot, quickly.

So, I need to figure this out. On my merry way I go, I guess.
